Roderick David Stewart was born on 10 January 1945 at 507 Archway Road, Highgate, North London, the youngest of five children to Robert Joseph Stewart (26 December 1904-1990) and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart (14 December 1905–1996).
His father was Scottish and a master builder in Edinburgh’s Leith, while Elsie was English and grew up in North London’s Upper Holloway. Married in 1928, the couple had two sons and two daughters in Scotland before relocating to Highgate.
Stewart was born during WWII at home, eight years after his nearest sibling. The family was neither wealthy nor impoverished; Stewart was spoiled as the youngest child and has described his childhood as “fantastically happy.”
He had a mediocre performance at Highgate Primary School and failed the eleven-plus exam. He then attended Muswell Hill’s William Grimshaw Secondary Modern School (later Fortismere School). [20] When his father retired from the building trade, he bought a newsagent’s shop on Archway Road and lived above it. Stewart’s main hobby was model railroading.
Stewart’s father had played in a local amateur team and also managed some teams, and one of Stewart’s earliest memories was of the pictures of Scottish players such as George Young and Gordon Smith that his brothers had on the wall. Stewart was the family’s most talented footballer and a fan of Arsenal F.C. at the time. He became captain of the school football team and played center-half for Middlesex Schoolboys, combining natural athleticism with near-reckless aggression.
Who are Rod Stewart’s children’s mothers?
Stewart is the father of eight children with five different women and has a notoriously active love life. Stewart’s first child, Sarah Streeter, was born when he was 18 years old, and the couple decided to place her for adoption.
Stewart met Streeter in 2008 after she was raised by adoptive parents. With his first wife, Alana Stewart, he has a daughter, Kimberly Stewart, and a son, Sean Stewart. With his ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg, he has a daughter named Ruby.
Stewart has two children from his second marriage to Rachel Hunter, Renee, and Liam. In 2005, at the age of 60, he became a father for the seventh time, to son Alastair Wallace with his then-fiance Penny Lancaster. They married in 2007 and welcomed their second child, Aiden, in 2011.
