Steve Harms was a cherished member of the Lenexa, Kansas community who sadly passed away on September 21, 2023. Born and raised in Lenexa, Steve was a true hometown hero, dedicating his time and energy to various local causes. He was not just an ordinary individual; he was a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many in Lenexa and beyond.

A Coaching Career to Remember

Steve began his coaching career at West Junior High School in the Kansas City, Kansas school district, coaching football, basketball, and track. In 1981, he became a varsity assistant coach at Washington High School and then became the head coach in 1985. In 1993, he opened Blue Valley Northwest High School as the first head football coach in school history. During his career, he earned a 73-50 record that included seven conference titles, six district titles, and three regional titles. He was twice named the KCK coach of the year and twice named the EKL coach of the year. His teams were ranked in the top 5 in Kansas four times and in the top 10 of the Kansas City Metro four times. Steve was also a member of the Blue Valley Northwest Athletic Hall of Fame.

A Loving Husband and Father

Steve's most cherished role, however, was that of a loving husband and father[7]. He married the love of his life, Sarah, in 1985, and their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them[7]. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Emily and Ethan, teaching them the values of love, kindness, and laughter[7].

A Legacy of Love and Generosity

Steve's passing has left a void that cannot be easily filled, but his memory will continue to inspire and bring solace to those who knew him[1]. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a local charity or organization that was dear to Steve's heart[1]. This gesture would be a fitting tribute to his spirit of giving and compassion[1].
