Is There Going To Be A Fear Street Part 4? Heres The Latest Update!

June 2024 · 5 minute read

With the release of its third instalment in July 2021, “Fear Street,” Netflix’s favourite new horror franchise, came to an end. The trilogy’s last instalment revealed the curse that has been following the community of Shadyside for ages. But is this really the end? Or are there new films in development?

The “Fear Street” trilogy, which was also adapted for cinema and television, was influenced by R.L. Stine’s books of the same name, which are a darker and more brutal version of the author’s well-known “Goosebumps” volumes (which were written for younger audiences). Three movies that are set in 1994, 1978, and 1666 tell the plot, which is set in the made-up town of Shadyside. A gang of teenagers are portrayed in “Fear Street” as they struggle to survive a terrifying curse placed on their town by a witch that has caused a different resident to become possessed and go on a killing rampage every generation. The group’s journey through the investigation begins in 1666, the year Sarah Fier was condemned to death for her crimes and accused of being a witch.

The trilogy’s plot summary is as follows:

A group of teens learn in 1994 that the horrible incidents that have plagued their town for decades may all be connected, and that they could be the next victims. FEAR STREET is a 300-year-long nightmare that explores Shadyside’s nefarious history and is based on R.L. Stine’s best-selling horror series.

Fans of “Fear Street” have questioned whether the series will continue after the trilogy, but according to director and co-writer Leigh Janiak (who also directed the independent horror movie “Honeymoon”), there may be hope!

The Fear Street Cinematic Universe Is A Dream

Leigh Janiak, the director and co-writer of “Fear Street,” said in an interview with Collider that the team “had plans” for the trilogy to go on and change into a bigger franchise. In addition, Janiak told IndieWire that she had voiced her desire for “Fear Street,” a Netflix series that examines slasher murders from various eras, to develop into the horror equivalent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We have a chance to establish a horror Marvel here, where you may have slasher killers from a variety of various eras, I mentioned before I was hired.

The director intended to use the concept of the devil living in Shadyside in additional movies, thus it became the central theme of the trilogy. Janiak hoped that people would enjoy the films so that the group might create a second trilogy.

“There is place for everything else, but you have the canon of our primary mythology, which is based on the idea that the devil resides in Shadyside. I suppose my hope is that enough people enjoy it that we can start expanding [further], thinking about what another trilogy would be like, what standalones would be like, and what television would be like.

“I hardly even consider it in terms of television or movies anymore. That’s the wonderful thing about Netflix and about “Fear Street,” a new hybrid product. The prospect of what else might occur excites me.

The “Fear Street” trilogy has surely been profitable for the streaming service because each instalment quickly rose to the top of Netflix’s most-watched movies on the weekend of its debut. There are axes being buried in skulls, people! The three movies worked together to portray a single story and didn’t shy away from gore, acting as a reminder that this is absolutely not “Goosebumps.” It’s a very good slasher franchise, and it would be intriguing to see “Fear Street” develop under Janiak’s direction.

Is There A Release Date For Fear Street 4?

Although Janiak has stated that she wishes to complete the trilogy, Netflix has not yet made the fourth instalment of the “Fear Street” series public. The films aren’t a direct adaptation of R.L. Stine’s books, even though they are inspired by them and are set in the same world. There are still many sources to draw from in Stine’s “Fear Street” series, which consists of more than 30 books.

Prior to the pandemic limitations putting those plans on indefinite hold, the “Fear Street” flicks were initially slated to be released on the big screen; at that time, Netflix purchased them. On the streamer, the trilogy was made available between July 2 and July 16. Netflix hasn’t yet hinted at a fourth movie, but with Janiak on board to further growing the “Fear Street” world of movies, fans may get some good news soon!

Which Cast Members Could Return For Fear Street 4?

No cast members of “Fear Street” sequels or spinoffs have been confirmed officially, but the franchise has previously established a pattern for the same actors playing several characters. In “Fear Street Part 3: 1666,” for instance, Sadie Sink, Kiana Madeira, and Olivia Scott Welch return to play the forebears of their 20th-century characters in multiple roles. This enables “Fear Street” to resurrect original cast members, even if they were eliminated.

Since Janiak has expressed interest in a new trilogy series set in Shadyside, it is possible that previous characters will reappear. Maya Hawke, Emily Rudd, Ryan Simpkins, Mccabe Slye, Ted Sutherland, Benjamin Flores Jr., Jordana Spiro, Gillian Jacobs, Ashley Zukerman, Chiara Aurelia, and Jordyn Dinatale are among the other actors that have appeared in the production.
