St. Marys Man Fatally Shot After Encounter with Celina Police: Corey Andrew Identified

The unfortunate demise of Corey Andrew, a 24-year-old St. Marys resident, has been identified as the result of a fatal encounter with Celina police early Friday morning. Celina Police Chief Tom Wale confirmed Corey Andrew’s identity as the individual who was shot during the incident and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. This revelation was made in an official media release.

The sequence of events unfolded as a police investigation commenced at Eastview Park, near the park’s pond, around 2:10 a.m. on Friday, according to Chief Wale’s statement.

“An encounter took place between the police and 24-year-old Corey Andrew from St. Marys. This encounter escalated into a police-involved shooting,” Wale stated.

Following the incident, Corey Andrew was swiftly transported to Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

While the name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been disclosed, it remains unknown whether multiple officers were engaged in the incident.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, in response to a request, has taken on the responsibility of conducting the investigation, as confirmed by an agency spokesperson to News Center 7.
